Motorola CEO: Flagship Moto X Smartphone Will Launch This Year



Motorola CEO Dennis Woodside confirmed Wednesday that the company is working on a new flagship smartphone — the long-rumored Moto X.

During an interview at All Things Digital's D11 conference, Woodside confirmed the smartphone’s existence, and shared some details about it.

For instance, the phone will be aware of its surroundings.

“Motorola has always been good at managing power on the device, but we're really good at managing sensors,” Woodside said. “We know when it's in your pocket, we know when it's in your hand, and it’s going to know when you want to take a picture and fire up the cameras.”

He added that the Moto X will be contextually aware, and will operate differently based on its environment. For example, the phone will know when it’s in a car going down the highway, and will offer ways for you to interact with it safely, and differently than if you were sitting on the couch at home.

Unlike many other smartphones on the market, the Moto X will also be manufactured in the United States, specifically at a Texas plant that was previously used to manufacture Nokia cell phones. Read more…
